THE MOCKERS & THE MOCKED

picturex

Don’t you cry little girl,

don’t you cry at all

The world is so cruel

and you have to bear it all

People are harsh

and have hearts of steel

People are cold

and want us all to kneel

You are testing your wings

a little bird in the nest

Safe in your parents’ warmth

and doing your very best

Looking down, you can see

Looking down, you can hear

People of all colours

and their shouts, all queer

But what you cannot see

But what you must not hear

Are the hardened hearts

and insults that sear

Don’t you cry little girl,

don’t you cry at all

The world is so cruel

and you have to bear it all

People are broken

and blinded by hatred

People are merciless

To them, words are sacred

You are a butterfly

but a butterfly in cocoon

Fluttering delicate wings

and emerging too soon

Outside it is lonely

Outside it is dark

The nigh wolves howl

and the wild dogs bark

Don’t you cry little girl,

don’t you cry at all

The world is so cruel

and you have to bear it all

You must be strong

You must not pay heed

You must not loose spirit

A strong heart you need

The river heals all

as the time passes

One day you will know

stupid are the masses

Hold you head high

Shrug away the worries

It’s a new day tomorrow

Life beckons and hurries

Don’t you cry little girl,

don’t you cry at all

The world is so cruel

and you have to bear it all
