How the Mighty Gods Fall

We make them our gods, bow for forgiveness, sacrifice our ego,  then discover we loved a narcissist, and wisdom was asleep while we built altars for humans.

Oh, how the mighty gods that we build, fall;

how they crumble and fall, when we lose our faith

Oh, how our hearts that we’ve made so stout, break;

how they break and shatter, when we become a wraith

______________________________________________

The first glance that we steal is sheer attraction,

it’s only the silver lining that shines, and that we see

There may be billowing clouds of darkness within,

but ‘go on, be a fool!’, our desires make a strong plea

______________________________________________

Attachment comes groveling and crawling then,

masking our insecurities and binding us with chains

They become the reasons for our happiness and sorrow,

as stupidity thrives and runs through our veins

______________________________________________

Then comes love, the sweet, sickly love,

we make them our gods, with our knees so weak

We bow to them, and we seek their forgiveness;

we sacrifice our ego, we aim only to please

______________________________________________

The final stage is hurt, it is a cold, sharp dagger;

with the blade of betrayal, it cuts our hearts deep

That we loved a narcissist, it comes as a shock;

knowing it all along, our wisdom was asleep

______________________________________________

While we are doing all this to ourselves,

our subconscious stands as a somber guard

She is hard steel, she doesn’t care for any gods;

amidst the raging chaos, her stance is always hard

______________________________________________

We stand aside and we look at ourselves;

misery, anguish, and the loss of all faith

When the mighty gods that we build, fall,

we become the ghosts of ourselves, a grey wraith

The Inevitability of Sorrow (Previosuly, Seeds of Happiness and Fruits of Sorrow)

What if happiness is only the beginning of sorrow?

____________________________

All those who cultivate seeds of happiness,

will one day surely, eat the bitter fruit of sorrow

It’s your destiny, and your legacy, my dear child,

just follow your past, don’t seek a new tomorrow

____________________________

All those who know how to love and how to care,

will one day surely meet a sad and lonely end

It’s bound to happen, oh please don’t weep or cry,

it’s not something broken that you can readily mend

____________________________

All those who dance, and who laugh clear and loud,

will one day surely shed the bitter tears of loss

It’s the rule, my friend, you can’t run and fight,

you always pay the price, you always bear the cross

_________________________

All those who forgive and carry no black grudge,

will one day mourn the loss of their own hearts

You can’t keep on giving, giving more and some more,

there’re always expectations, even when hope departs

____________________________

Those who plan and cater for all possible regrets,

will certainly be the most regretful of all in the end

Regrets are the fires that keep the memories warm,

without regrets, there’s only coldness, you can’t tend

When the Mirror Broke Again (Previously, Lament of the Loss)

A poem about mending each other, only to discover the mirror breaks again.

______________________

Neither you were broken, nor I, when I met you first,

only the mirror was broken into a thousand pieces

Neither you were crushed, nor I, when we met at our worst,

only the world was folded into a thousand creases

______________________

We picked up the pieces with bleeding fingers,

our love just made the mirror whole once again

Arranging the shining puzzle on a matrix of red,

unfolding the creases, we removed every stain

______________________

I chose to polish you, and you chose to polish me;

I showed you the beauty, playing sweet violins

I chose to strengthen you, and you chose to strengthen me;

you showed me how the real affection begins

______________________

I showed you the colors, vibrant and fragrant;

I embraced your troubles and kissed away your tears

You showed me how to make the ultimate surrender;

supporting my struggles, you pushed away my fears

______________________

We loved and we fought, and we made up again,

we found some warmth under the cold, dead frost

We agreed and we disagreed, and settled what we could,

we cried bitterly, when we thought all was lost

______________________

Towards the end, we became a wholesome one,

cherishing our victory, thinking that’s what peace is

With our souls entwined, we thought we had won,

but the mirror broke again, into a thousand pieces
