Love once—not because it is easy, but because it is enough.

Love only once, my son

Please! I beg you, love only once

You may have to cross a million mountains,

and you may have to brave the stormy seas

You may have to open just one lock,

and you may use a billion different keys

But love only once,

please, love only once

Please! I beg you, love only once

You may have to live a million lives,

and you may have to die a billion deaths

You may have to dive very deep,

and you may take a zillion breaths

But love only once,

please, love only once

Please! I beg you, love only once

For when you grow old,

and silence rules the long night

For when you grow lonely,

and nostalgia is hungry and takes a bite

You will think of that one love

and once again, the sun will shine bright

For when nothing will be standing,

between you and the dark end

For when the path grows short,

and the dust smiles across the next bend

and will find once again, a lost friend

Real love isn’t found in kisses—it’s found in the darkness you’re willing to accept.

Love comes not,

when you kiss her smiling lips and turn your feelings South,

and find them sweet and moist, past that formidable pout

And love comes not,

when you hold her hand and choose to kiss her bitter mouth,

and find it sour and so parched, her sadness, an eternal drought

_____________________________________________________

Love comes not,

when you lie down together, the naked you with the naked her,

her warmth entwined with yours, and the feelings that you stir

And love comes not,

when you hold your ego in check and laugh and cry with her,

the silly mistakes you commit, and the boundaries that you blur

Instead, love comes,

when you walk in her shoes and choose to fight her fight,

finding all that is absolutely dark, and finding all that is light

And love comes,

when you feel the warmth with joy and own the day with pride,

when you walk the path to darkness, you trace the origin of night

Love really comes,

when you sneak into her soul, and see the real wreckage,

finding all that is rotten, the ugly weight of her baggage

And love really comes,

When you search for her broken heart and find the only passage,

owning all that is rotten, sharing the burden of her baggage

When the Mirror Broke Again (Previously, Lament of the Loss)

A poem about mending each other, only to discover the mirror breaks again.

Neither you were broken, nor I, when I met you first,

only the mirror was broken into a thousand pieces

Neither you were crushed, nor I, when we met at our worst,

only the world was folded into a thousand creases

______________________

We picked up the pieces with bleeding fingers,

our love just made the mirror whole once again

Arranging the shining puzzle on a matrix of red,

unfolding the creases, we removed every stain

______________________

I chose to polish you, and you chose to polish me;

I showed you the beauty, playing sweet violins

I chose to strengthen you, and you chose to strengthen me;

you showed me how the real affection begins

______________________

I showed you the colors, vibrant and fragrant;

I embraced your troubles and kissed away your tears

You showed me how to make the ultimate surrender;

supporting my struggles, you pushed away my fears

We loved and we fought, and we made up again,

we found some warmth under the cold, dead frost

We agreed and we disagreed, and settled what we could,

we cried bitterly, when we thought all was lost

______________________

Towards the end, we became a wholesome one,

cherishing our victory, thinking that’s what peace is

With our souls entwined, we thought we had won,

but the mirror broke again, into a thousand pieces
