Love & Betrayal are Two Friends and Lovers

This poem dives into the battlefield where trust stands guard and desire becomes the traitor.

Love and betrayal are two friends and two lovers,

they are inseparable friends and diehard lovers

They walk hand in hand, on the path of life,

their shadows becoming one with the passage of time

Fate plays merrily, its shiny golden fife,

while deep lines are etched on faces, still in their prime

Love and betrayal are two friends and two lovers,

strangers to each other, but intimate under covers

They act like true enemies, sworn and so old,

with curved scimitars drawn, ready to draw blood

Love banishes betrayal to hell; it’s a move so bold,

while betrayal hides itself, yellow scorpion in the mud

Love and betrayal are two friends and two lovers,

trust is a formidable wall as betrayal discovers

Betrayal tries to sneak in while looking for a door,

but faith guards all doors; it stands a steady vigil

With each of betrayal’s tries, love becomes a strong boar,

while the trust becomes absolute, being bound by a sigil

Love and betrayal are two friends and two lovers,

distance pulls them closer with no gaps and no buffers

When betrayal seeks an audience, love shuns it away,

though betrayal is insistent, love just stands its ground

But then the light hides in the shadows of a sky so grey,

while hope breathes its last, loudly barks the hellhound

Love and betrayal are two friends and two lovers,

fate has one last plan, which she quickly uncovers

Desire whispers to love, her voice so poisonously sweet,

it makes promises of pleasure, the prospect of deniability

Love finally surrenders to desire and agrees to cheat,

it chooses to embrace betrayal, forgetting all nobility

Love and betrayal are two friends and two lovers,

desire always hides guilt, as in the end, love discovers

But when love pushes betrayal away, it doesn’t let go,

‘Why?’ love asks, while engaged in a deadly struggle

‘Listen!’ betrayal whispers, ‘if you must know’,

‘we are two balls that fate must always juggle’

The Gospel of the Eyes (previously, its all in the eyes)

All eyes tell stories - this poem listens to them all.

In the eyes, everything can be found,

and I see eyes everywhere and all around

Happy and sad, and also good and bad eyes

tired and watchful, and hungry and soulful eyes

Lustful and virtuous, and dreaming and tempestuous eyes,

eyes that evade, and eyes that stare into other eyes

________________________________________________

Eyes that are happy in their forgetfulness,

gold, women, and the laughter of children,

sedated by the fulfillment of petty dreams

And eyes that are sad in their knowingness,

death, old age, and the torture of loneliness,

confronted by reality when maturity screams

________________________________________________

Eyes that are awake in their mindfulness,

virtue, religion, and the seduction of charity,

attracted by heaven or the morality within

And eyes that are asleep in their sinfulness,

wealth, selfishness, and lust for the world,

numbing their hearts, each loss and each win

________________________________________________

Eyes that are tired in their exasperation,

poverty, destitution, and the pangs of hunger,

numb and dull, when madness brims over

And eyes that are watchful in their enragement,

injustice, genocide, and the horrors of war,

stopped by helplessness when frustration takes over

________________________________________________

Hungry eyes with their constantly begging needs,

power, money, and the sultriness of status,

entangled in webs of silver and gold

And soulful eyes in their mournful creeds,

ethics, morality, and the concept of social justice,

entwined in philosophies, contradictory and bold

________________________________________________

Lustful eyes with their passionately burning promises,

murmurs, whispers, and the fragility of assurances,

lighted, lived, and extinguished over a single night

And virtuous eyes with their polished hypotheses,

conscience, belief, and the solidness of integrity,

drafted and nullified just after a single fight

________________________________________________

Dreaming eyes with their dark, forbidden fantasies,

caprice, obscenity, and the call of devilishness,

darkened and colored by unfulfilled desires

Tempestuous eyes with their guilt-ridden ecstasies,

sex, alcohol, and the lure of dominance,

emboldened and driven by unheard cries

________________________________________________

In the eyes, everything can be found,

and I see eyes everywhere and all around

My eyes, your eyes, smiling and frowned,

eyes of the chaotic masses, countless and abound

Eyes that are bewildered, and eyes that astound,

eyes that are deceived, and eyes that confound

Chronicles of a Pessimistic Optimist

anti-inflammatory-diet-for-depression-1200x675

Between hope and despair lies a grey hall filled with regret and guilt.

_______________

I have always been a pessimist and also an optimist;

my life is a grey hall, filled with a rainbow mist

My past had been dark, and my future seemed so bright;

the night had been dead, but I said, long live the light

Yet my thoughts had been honest and so very true;

my mood had always been the darkest hue of blue

_______________

I push open the window and scrutinize my past;

I recall everything clearly, the first and the last

I see so many butterflies riding the sunbeams;

some ugly and the others pretty - nightmares and dreams

The womb was very warm, and it was so secure;

but the shelter was a curse when the doom seemed sure

_______________

My memories, when I open the old, musty book;

time had passed so fast, like a fast-flowing brook

Faces and images always passed by in a hurry;

my nostalgia was always chaos, even the chaos was blurry

Within this chaos, bitter conflict had always been a must;

all the treacheries of life and only a little bit of trust

_______________

I have been the prophet of hope and a seer of visions;

but my regret is so bitter for all the bad decisions

The wounded birds, I always made them fly again;

but each time they left a parting gift - a cold pain

I cannot be a savior; it was just a false belief;

there was no pleasure in the pain, just cold, dark grief

_______________

I treaded new paths, and also the dark forbidden places;

roaming in the spirit of adventure, leaving dark traces

Sin appeared to be the wisdom, and virtue seemed bland;

the sense of curiosity kept on burning and was so grand

Desire was the clear water, regret was the muddy silt;

but I always paid the price in the soiled coins of guilt

_______________

Desires were sirens, they bewitched and seduced;

wishes were the flames, but to dust they were reduced

Hope always lived on, but she is a devious bitch;

and disappointment has been so abundant and rich

Wisdom came leisurely; it danced a slow waltz;

the pessimism was true; the optimism was always false

_______________

Life is always a glass half-filled; it is quite right;

darkness always sighs with a promise so bright

Sorrows and joys in a long and tiring queue;

but more of the former than the latter, it’s also true

Within each light, resides a dark shadow;

perched on every tower of hope is a black crow
